Introduction:
The Onda VX777 is the first player to come from Onda that has a 3.0 inch capacitive touch screen, this allows
for better screen sensitivity and better screen quality. The Onda VX777, apart from having a touch screen
interface, also allows for hi-res videos and loss less audio playback. The Onda VX777 is controled via The
capacitive touch screen, with one button on top - The power or on/off. It has a built-in speaker. The VX777
has the JZ4740 chip. Available with either 4GB or 8GB of internal flash memory. A ‘micro’ SDHC memory card
slot that can use up to 32GB of additional memory. The current firmware is version 1.0. Though there is a
‘test’ version 1.1 on the Onda web site.
Design:
The overall design is very sleek and smooth, with rounded corners. The entire unit is black in color. The
combination gives a cool elegant look. Very light and easy to carry.
Screen:
VX777 has a 3″ lattice TFT wide screen display, 262k colors, 16:9 aspect ratio, 400×240 resolution.
The screen is very bright and vibrant. With the added ‘capacitive’screen it does NOT have the ‘faded’ look like some other ‘touch’screens do.

User Interface:
Only one button is located on the top of this player - the Power button. This is the first Onda
player not to have even the volume buttons on the player. The ports are placed on the edges of the device.
Along the far right edge is where the TV out connection and the micro SDHC slot are located. Along the left
side is where the 3.5 mm headphone jack, the Reset hole, The mic, and the 5 pin mini USB connection are located.
The GUI:
The graphical interface is also very straight forward. Very like allthe other Ingenics chipped PMP’s. All of the controls are via the touchscreen. A simple touch with your finger or pen will allow access to allof the menus and sub menus.
Audio:
This player is compatible with MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC files. The sound quality is very good, and loud.
Also has the Microsoft Windows ‘Play FX’ for added sound enhancement. You can choose to play all songs or just
one folder. You can organize the play order by filename, by title, by artist or by album. You can also choose
to randomize the order if you wish. There are 7 built-in EQ settings available to choose from: Jaz, Pop, Rock,
Classic, Vocal, Treble and Bass. The EQ settings are improved over other PMP’s with the same chip as it does not
distort when set on ‘BASS’ or turned all the way up. This player also supports LRC files which allow the
synchronization of music with lyrics.

Video:
Powered by the Chinachip Ingenics JZ4740, video compatibility is superb on players with this chip set.
The VX777 supports RM/RMVB, AVI, FLV, ASF, MP4, MPG, MOV, WMA, WMV, 3GPand SWF files. Supports playback resume, on all videos (I had 4, and itcould resume on all of them.) It also can ‘zoom’ the videos as wellduring
play back, by simply pressing the screen, and going to the config settings, Choose from ‘normal’, ‘full screen’ or
‘fill box’.
Photos:
The VX777 supports JPEGs, BMPs, GIFs and PNGs. It can handle any picture size. You can zoom them to fit the
screen. VX777 shows you all the pictures in a thumbnail veiw, where you can then select one and make
it full screen. You can display photos in a slideshow, and you can also customize the background picture for
the music, radio, recording and text viewing screens. The main menu screens cannot be changed unless done
through or with a customized Firmware.
Flash Player:
Flash based videos and games are useable / veiwable on the vx777. In the SWF file format videos play very well.
Flash based games ‘load’ and are viewable, but the touch screen option is just not like the vx747 and no
interaction is possible. So Flash games that I have tried do not work….

TV-out Function:
The VX777 comes with an av able. The av cable has three ends at one side and 3.5mm jack at the another. In
the Video Playing screen, select TV and make necessary settings, finally select ‘TV Screen’ (the player
will turn the screen off). When in the TV mode, The movie screen is theonly one you can see on the TV, unlike the vx757+ where ALL of thescreens were veiwable on the TV screen. When video’s are played on theTV through the player, the quality is comparable to that of the playersscreen. The radio, picture, E-book - ALL menu and other screens lookvery clean and clear. It also has ’stereo’ when playing as well.
Touching the screen during playback will ‘pause/resume theMovie…touching the screen for a ‘few’ seconds will return it back tothe player for ‘normal’ viewing.
FM Radio:
FM radio reception comes standard on VX777. The headphones are used for the antenna. You can store up to 40
pre-programmed stations and edit your list as you prefer. I found the reception to be very good even while indoors.
Much improved reception over that of the vx 757+Â Â due to the upgraded chip I think…
Games:
VX777 also comes with 3 games built-in: Tetris, Brick and Snakes. While the vx777 has ‘touch’ screen interaction
With the games, it simply opens a touch control panel at the bottom, and the ‘buttons’ are used from the touch screen.
Voice Recording:
Again, just as VX747, and VX757 (+) the vx777 is built with an internal microphone for voice recording with
selectable recording quality to choose from. It records in wav format.
Text Viewing:
The VX777 supports TXT files. And font size and colors can be changed through the menu.
Accessories:
The Onda VX777 comes with headphones, a cleaning cloth, a standard 5-pin USB cable, the av cable
(used for the TV out) the Onda warranty card, the drivers and tools CDand the user manual (in Simplified Chinese).  Also, Onda now includes aSilicon case with this PMP!
Battery:
Onda’s specs say 850mAh Lithium battery with  18 hours listening tomusic under dark mode and 6 hours movie playback on a full charge. Ihave played about 5 hours worth of video (Different formats and withthe TV out as well), not to mention the ‘playing’ time (testing, Music, images, flash games, etc…) since I first received and fully chargedit and it still shows about half of the battery left.
Firmware:
The firmware is upgradable:
At this time Version 1.0 is on the player. There is a Version 1.1 on the Onda site that is still ‘test’ or ‘beta’, and
it claims improvments with the capacitive touch screen response times and other improvments with the player.
NOTE: Make sure your player has a good charge on the battery beforedoing the firmware upgrade. (but the whole process shouldn’t take but acouple of minutes).
The upgrade Shouldn’t erase any files, but its a good idea to back up your files before doing the upgrade.
Conclusion:
Overall, I was most impressed with the bright, clean 3 inch screen of the Onda vx777. The ‘capacitive’ touch screen
does have a very good improvment over that of the Onda vx757+ which was good to begin with. The sound quality and
level were far above my expectations as well. The TV out function with stereo, being able to not only see the
video / movie files but also ALL the screens and menus as well is very inovative - I would expect to see this on most
if not all the PMP’s with TV out that are released after this one. The only ‘con’ that I seem to have with this player
is the Firmware does not support the capacitive touch screen as well assome other PMP’s do - maybe through more firmware updates this will beremedied.
